Overview of the U.S. Aviation Industry
Oversight of the U.S. Aviation industry is provided by the U.S.
Department of Transportation / Federal Aviation Administration.
The DoT/FAA regulates the aviation industry which includes air
carriers, air traffic control, airmen (aircrew and mechanics),
and ensures air operations / maintenance safety.
Regulations for the aviation industry are found in the Code of
Federal Regulations: Title 14, Parts 01-199 (also know as the
Federal Aviation Regulations - FARs). Here are some
important websites for aircraft mechanics to be familiar with
for up to date regulatory information:

The U.S. Congress gives legislative oversight to the aviation
industry. Both the Senate and the House have committees
which give oversight to the aviation industry and craft new
laws:
